Investing In Education
Aside from the successful projects that North Kohala Community Resource Center supports, there have also been many organizational accomplishments that have marked milestones in NKCRC’s growth and sustained its accountability.
NKCRC is a founding member of HANO, the Hawaii Alliance of Non-Profit Organizations and active in the Kohala Merchants Association. Both Christine Richardson, Executive Director and Treasurer, Bob Martin, have Professional Development Certificates in Non-Profit Organization Management from Kapiolani College as well as President, Chris Helmuth, and Vice President, Faye Mitchell. Bob Martin has also completed the Foundation Center's Grantseeking on the Web and Proposal Writing Courses in New York. Three Board and staff members have completed the Grantsmanship Trainding Program with the Grantsmanship Center in Los Angeles.
The Center was awarded national recognition from the Points of Light Foundation in April, 2005. We received the Monty Richards Bank of Hawaii Innovative Leadership Award for Non-Profits on the Big Island in September 2008. We received this first annual Monty Richards Innovation in Non-Profit award created in conjunction with Bank of Hawaii. NKCRC was chosen among over 30 non-profits on the Big Island.
