The Community We Serve

North Kohala, located at the end of the road on the northernmost tip of the Big Island of Hawai’i is large in land area (133 square miles) and small in population (6300 residents in 1800 households in 2010). There are approximately 950 school age children from kindergarten through twelfth grade.
We are isolated (the nearest town is 21 miles), rural and agricultural (98% of our land is zoned for agricultural use) and, like most Hawai’ian communities, we are a blend of seven diverse ethnic cultures: Hawai’ian, Japanese, Filipino, Puerto Rican, Chinese, Portuguese, and Caucasian.
