Community Emergency Response Team
NK CERT is part of the Hawai'i Civil Defense network. Members are trained by the Fire Department and Civil Defense to assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following a disaster when professional responders are not immediately available. Each member has an emergency response kit and we keep caches of medical, fire suppression, and rescue supplies. Members take an active role in emergency preparedness projects, including mapping the location of resources useful during an emergency. We publish an annual emergency preparedness article in the Kohala Mountain News. Members meet quarterly to organize and practice skills and take a CERT recertification training course each year.
